Robert Mayer is the author of sixteen books—They include Superfolks, which (for better or worse) altered the treatment of super heroes in comics and movies forever; Notes of a Baseball Dreamer, a memoir about growing up as a wannabe major leaguer in New York City; and The Dreams of Ada, the true story of two men spending life in prison for a murder they did not commit.

Robert Mayer Worked at Newsday for ten years, six as a reporter and four as the paper's award-winning columnist. His column,  'Robert Mayor in New York City'. He was the managing editor and then editor of The Santa Fe Reporter for 6 years . 

His articles have appeared in The New York Times, The Washington Post, Vanity Fair, New York Magazine, Condé Naste Traveler,and many other publications.

His newest book is Monkey Brain- A Writing Life.  It's a very different kind of memoir… invented by Mayer.

At this moment,   New York Times bestselling author and illustrator, Jan Brett, has more than 40 books in print..  Her children's books are adorned with intricate, magical, super-realist drawings of imaginary worlds on every page. Brett also writes the text. Brett spends a lot of time at home and abroad researching her books. Her best selling books include,  Annie and the Wild Animals published in 1985, Fritz and the Beautiful Horses, and The Mitten. Some of Jan Brett's illustrated books are classics like: Beauty and the Beast and The Owl and the Pussy Cat.

Her latest book, just out is The Mermaid- about a young mermaid who becomes trapped in the home of a family of Octupuses and figures out a graceful way to escape from their clutches.

Brett comes by her extensive knowledge of the animal world through her own passion for all creatures.  She is an award-winning breeder of fancy chickens, a lover of turtles - and she lives in harmony with all manner of creatures at her home in Norwell Mass.

Hampton Sides' articles have appeared in many publications - here are a few: Outside magazine National Geographic, The New Yorker, Esquire,  and The Washington Post. Sides has guest-lectured at Columbia, Yale, Stanford, SMU, and Colorado College. among other venues and institutions.

Right now, Hampton Sides is working on a book for Doubleday about 1950, the early days of the Cold War, and the heroic Korean War Battle of Chosin Reservoir.

JAMES MCGRATH MORRIS is a critically-acclaimed biographer. He has also worked along the way-  as a journalist, book publisher, high school teacher and radio news broadcaster.

Morris has 7 published books- about such impressive figures as publisher, Joseph Pulitzer, activist, Emma Goldman, and Ethel Payne, the first lady of the black press.

His latest book-  Published this year-  The Ambulance Drivers: Hemingway and Dos Passos--and a Friendship Made and Lost in War is the story of two aspiring writer who meet during war, forge an intense twenty-year friendship, and write some of America's greatest novels.

Caroline Fraser's most recent book, Prairie Fires: the American Dreams of Laura Ingalls Wilder won the 2018 Pulitzer Prize for biography.  

Laura Ingalls Wilder is known and loved by generations of American children as the author of the Little House On the Prairie. However, her astounding personal story has never been fully told.

Fred Van Lente is best known as a NY Times best-selling comic writer.  He creates the text for hard-hitting, irreverent, super hero series like Archer and Armstrong.  Non-fiction comics with weightier subjects like the series Action Philosphers. Other comics include Weird Detective and X-men Noir.

He also co-wrote the graphic novel Cowboys and Aliens, which was made into a film starring Harrison Ford and Daniel Craig.

Now Van Lente has swerved from his successful comic-writer career to write his first novel- Ten Dead Comedians, a show business satire. His second novel, The Con Artist, is set in the comic book industry. That book will be out in 2018.

Joan Logghe - Poet Laureate of Santa Fe 2010-2012.  She works at poetry and arts activism.  She studied at Tufts University where she graduated as Class Poet and won an Academy of American Poet’s College Poetry Award. Logghe's many awards include a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship, Witter Bynner Foundation for Poetry Grants, and A Mabel Dodge Luhan Internship.

Logghe taught poetry extensively in the US and abroad. She is the president of New Mexico Literary Arts  which aims to inspire & develop the imaginative use of language and to create opportunities for the integration of the literary arts with other art forms throughout New Mexico.Her books include What Makes a Woman Beautiful, Twenty Years in Bed with the Same Man (a finalist in Western States Book Award) and Sofia, Logghe is a co-founder of Tres Chicas Books based in Santa Fe.

Deep in the Himalayan foothills, ELIZABETH ROSE was born by the light of a hurricane lamp on the dining room table.It was the last decade of the British Raj. The British rule in India. The adventure begins there.

Elizabeth was shipped off from India at age seven to a children's home in England, There She roamed the moors , she became a feral child: taking in the wildness of the landscape. There her imagination developed un-schooled and un-censored.Elizabeth Rose became a writer, poet and sculptor. Also a wife, mother and speech pathologist.

Her book, Poet Under A Soldier's Hat, is the adventurous story of her birth father, Hugh Rose. Elizabeth Rose combines material from her birth fathers extensive diaries and her own research to create a fascinating story of military life and secret artistic passion. The tale unfolds with adulterous affairs, illegitimate pregnancies and banishment.

Rose emigrated from England in 1986 and now lives and works in Galisteo, New Mexico. Rose has received more than a dozen writers awards.

Guest: Jennet Conant

Jennet Conant was born in Seoul, South Korea and raised in Asia and the United States--- in Cambridge Massachusetts.  Conant is a distinguished historian and author of non-fiction books about World War II and it's aftermath. She is the author of 109 East Palace: Robert Oppenheimer and the Secret City of Los Alamos,  The Irregulars: Roald Dahl and the British Spy Ring in Wartime Washington and A Covert Affair: Julia Child and Paul Child in the OSS. Conant's latest book, just out this year is, Man of the Hour: James B. Conant, Warrior Scientist. James B. Conant, the author's grandfather, was a brilliant chemist, President of Harvard University and advisor to Presidents.

Four of her books have been on the NY Times Best Seller List.

Conant earned  bachelors degree in Political Theory and philosophy as well as a masters in journalism.  While a grad student at Columbia University, she was hired by Newsweek magazine and wound up working there for 7 years. Then for the next ten years Conant worked as a writer for Vanity Fair, Esquire and The New York Times.

Guest: Rob Thompson

Rob Thompson is an award winning screenwriter, director and producer. His name appears in the credits of such iconic TV series as Northern Exposures, LA Law and Monk. He has won an Emmy, an Emmy Nomination, the  Director's Guild award for Best Dramatic TV Director and a Writers Guild of America award for best original screenplay… and many more awards in his field.

After being admitted to law school but deciding not to go and a stint in the Marine Corps Reserves, Thompson decided that his destiny lay in the film business. He was accepted at UCLA film school with the intention of making documentaries which he did. He also made a short experimental film, SWLA, which is still an underground  cult classic.

His big break came at age 23  when he wrote the screenplay for "Hearts of the West". It was made into a film starring Jeff Bridges, Andy Griffith and Blythe Danner.

Thompson now lives on his ranch in Northern NM where he is deep into writing his first work of fiction… a trilogy

Guest: Dr. Rob Tenery

For Rob Tenery, medicine is in his blood.  He is a third generation physician.  His grandfather arrived in Texas on horseback 100 years ago and made history by opening the first hospital in a small Texas town and then in the 1950s desegregating it. His father and grandfather often worked 100 hour weeks… medicine was their life.

Rob Tenery took a slightly different path and became an opthamologist with somewhat regular business hours.  This left him time to become active in local and national political-medical organizations. For 8 years he wrote a monthly column for American Medical News.

Since then, Dr. Tenery has written four books about the medical profession and it's current state in the US. - Those books include: Dr. Mayo's Boy, A Century of American Medicine, Bedside Manners: A Compendium of Physician Relationships..

Now Dr. Tenery has put his knowledge of medicine to use writing fiction. His latest book- Insurrection, 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue- is a medical- political thriller.

William Debuys -  renowned author, environmental activist and advocate for wild lands-  has a new book out- FIRST IMPRESSIONS: A Reader's Journey to Iconic Places of the American Southwest.

It's written with David Weber- who originally came up with the idea for the book and began extensive research for it in 2004 before he passed away.

DeBuys is the author of nine books. All of them have received critical acclaim and awards.

Debuys has a small farm in Northern New Mexico ---where he lives and walks the land and writes

BOB PUGLISI'S  career has taken some wild swings from computer programmer and technical writer for major IT corporations to ---actor, screenwriter and author. He even did a 15 year stint as a librarian at the Old Rock Library in Crested Butte, Colorado.  He now lives in Santa Fe, NM    

He published his first novel, RAILWAY AVENUE in 2013. In 2000, he received a fellowship from the Colorado Council on the Arts for his screenplay BIG WHITE BONNEVILLE. He recently adapted that screenplay into a novel entitled, MIDNIGHT AUTO SUPPLY.

Several years ago, he completed a memoir, ALMOST A WISEGUY, about a friend’s life in the Mafia.  That project evolved into a podcast titled, MOBSHOT. It was later released as an audio book to rave reviews from Publisher's Weekly.

Bill O'Neill is a New Mexico State Senator. He has been Executive Director of the NM Juvenile Parole Board, Dismas House. He has been an Ivy League record-holding football player   And he is a Poet.

It's all in his new book- Freedom Of The Ignored

The poems were inspired by the rough-and-tumble boys and girls club that is the NM Legislature- and by O'Neill's personal relationships.  Many of the poems have previously appeared well known Literary magazines. O'Neill frequently writes opinion pieces for the Santa Fe new Mexican and The Albuquerque Journal

Guest: Michael Wallis

Michael Wallis is an author and reporter. He is perhaps best known as a historian and biographer of the American West. He has published 18 books including three about the original highway west- Route 66. 

His articles have appeared in hundreds of national and international magazines and newspapers, including Time, Life, People, Smithsonian, The New Yorker, and The New York Times. Wallis has been nominated three times for the Pulitzer Prize and was also a nominee for the National Book Award.

You may recognize his voice… because Wallis has a parallel career voicing documentary films. He is also the voice of -  "The Sherif of Radiator Springs in the popular animated CARS 1, 2 and 3 movies. 

His latest book, just published — The Best Land Under Heaven: The Donner Party in the Age of Manifest Destiny.

T. Jackson King began reading Science Fiction in 4th grade. By the time he was 38 he discovered that he had read all the Human-Alien first contact or encounter novels in his local library. So King decided to write his own. He has since published 27 books of Science Fiction and one book of poetry. Some of his titles include: STELLAR ASSASSIN, ESCAPE FROM ALIENS, EARTH VS. ALIENS. King has an masters degree in archeology which comes through in his books. He worked as a federal archeologist and newspaper journalist. Eventually, the success of his Science Fiction books allowed him to settle down to writing full time.

His latest book is BATTLESTAR. It is the first novel in his new StarFlight series.

Christopher Merrill is director of the prestigious International Writing Program at the University of Iowa.  In that capacity, he has undertaken cultural diplomacy missions to more than 50 countries.

Merrill is the Author of six works of non fiction. He has published six collections of poetry, including Brilliant Water  and Watch Fire  for which he received an Award from the Academy of American Poets.  His writings have been translated into 40 languages  As a journalist, Merrill's articles  appear in numerous publications. His many honors include a knighthood in arts and letters from the French government.For ten years Merrill was the book critic for the daily PRI radio news program The World.

His new book- just out is- SELF-PORTRAIT WITH DOGWOOD. A different kind of memoir.

Joy Jones is the author of four books- her latest, is The Last Madam: A legend of the Texas Chicken Ranch -  about an infamous brothel that operated near La Grange Texas from 1905-1973. This book is historical fiction- a lot of fact and with some fiction filling in the empty spaces. Professionally, Dr. Jones is a retired teacher with more than 30 years of experience in Texas and New Mexico public classrooms. She holds a masters degree in Educational Leadership and a PhD in Transpersonal Psychology.

Chodosh has a deep interest in natural history- and that comes out in her writing. Her new book , co-authored with Lori Robinson -  WILD LIVES Interviews with  Leading Conservationists:  On The Animals And The Planet They Love profiles twenty super-human conservationists who are determined to save the world. Chodosh worked at Yosemite National Park as a naturalist. She then moved to New Mexico to become the state Education Director for the Audobon Society. She is now a full time writer. 

Chodosh is also the author of a series of mysteries for teens. The first two books already out are Death Spiral and Code Red.

ANA MATIELLA writes about what she knows and, she knows people --starting with people in her family. Matiella has two books of memoir-  the latest - Las Madrinas  published in 2016, and her first book, The Truth About Alicia and Other Stories. As part of her daytime job,  Matiella  pioneered the use of fotonovellas to educate people about pressing health issues like HIV and Diabeties.  Matiiella writes in English and Spanish… which makes sense because she grew up in the border town of Nogales. She has also been a political columnist for tht Santa Fe New Mexican for 10 years.

Sallie Bingham is a writer, feminist activist, and philanthropist. Bingham’s first novel was published by Houghton Mifflin several years after she graduated from college.  It was followed by four collections of short stories.  She has also published six additional novels, three collections of poetry, numerous plays (produced off-Broadway and regionally), and the well-known family memoir, Passion and Prejudice. Her most recent book, published in 2014, is The Blue Box: Three Lives In Letters- about her mother, grandmother and great-grand-mother.

This year Red Mountain Press celebrates its 10th year publishing literature.
