Guest: David Treuer

David Treuer's newest book just out- is THE HEARTBEAT OF WOUNDED KNEE. He is the author of 7 books including 4 works of fiction.This latest book has already received a lot of attention from critics and scholars. Treuer's  stories and essays have appeared in many publications including, The Washington Post, the LA Times, "The New York Times," Esquire and Slate.

Currently he teaches at the university of Southern California where he is a professor of English.

Treuer grew up primarily on the Leech Lake Reservation in Minnesota.  His mother is Ojibwe and and was an Ojibwe Tribal Court Judge. His father was a Holocaust suvriver who worked in several capacities on the reservation. Treuer graduated from Princeton university with a degree in anthropology. He also wrote a thesis in creative writing. For that,Toni Morrison was his mentor. He then went on to earn a PhD in anthropology from the University of Michigan. In 2016, Treuer was a resident scholar at The School for Advanced Research in Santa fe. Today he joins us by phone from Tulsa Oklahoma.
